The Time I Did Family Portraits for the Bidens

A few years ago, I did the official holiday portrait for Vice President Joe Biden and family. I first met the uber-charming Dr. Jill Biden and her staff while photographing an event at the VP's residence for the Red Cross. Two years later, they thought of me when they were looking for a portrait photographer to do some family photos for their annual holiday card.

Photography is like a moment, an instant. You need a half-second to get the photo. So it's good to capture people when they are themselves.

About Dennis

services

Dennis is a veteran portrait and headshot photographer who has has worked for the Washington Post, New York Times, American Red Cross, JP Morgan and many others. His portrait subjects have included everyone from Vice President Joe Biden to Pakistani goatherders. Doctors and lawyers, business people and actors, authors and real estate agents pass through his headshot studio on a regular basis. He even photographs the occasional Irish Setter.

Dennis' work has won awards in the international Pictures of the Year competition, three Maryland State Arts Council Grants, an Arthur Burns Fellowship to work at the German magazine Stern, and two Fulbright Fellowships for work in Pakistan and Cambodia.

When he is not making pictures, Dennis enjoys sailing, salsa dancing and making his own kimchi.

Photography is the simplest thing in the world, but it is incredibly complicated to make it really work.
